St John’s Church in Northington is looking forward to hosting the Mayor of Winchester’s Charity Concert to be given by renowned organist, Andrew Lumsden.  Celebrated for his expressive musicianship and refined artistry, Andrew Lumsden is one of Britain’s most distinguished organists and choral conductors. His career spans international performances, acclaimed recordings, and latterly over two decades of inspired leadership at Winchester Cathedral, where he shaped a choir admired for its depth and clarity.

A regular performer with national orchestras and over 40 years of broadcasting with the BBC, his work unites tradition with innovation, inspiring audiences and musicians alike. Renowned for his warmth and musical insight, Andrew continues to influence the choral world through his performances, broadcasts and enduring commitment to musical excellence.

Appearing alongside Andrew Lumsden is talented young organist, Jacob Smith.  Jacob was awarded a bursary for organ lessons as part of the St John’s Organ Restoration project 2022 to 2024. The PCC of St John’s Northington then successfully applied for a follow-on bursary  - to enable Jacob to continue his organ lessons with Organ Tutor, John Purver - from The Friends of Music in Winchester to whom we are very grateful.

The programme to be given by Andrew Lumsden in aid of the Mayor’s charities  on Saturday 25th April at 7 pm will include Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor plus other organ favourites!
