CONCERT of VOICES and VIOLS

It’s a rare treat for a village church to host a concert of voices and viols. However, the audience at St. John’s Church, Northington, experienced such an event on Saturday 4th October when the voices of Vox Lucis and the viols of the Amici Ensemble gave a concert in celebration of the 500th anniversary of the birth of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. The programme was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the music of the late Tudor and Renaissance periods, including music composed by Palestrina, Victoria, de Lasso, Holborne, Dowland, and Gibbons.

The concert culminated in two pieces performed by Vox Lucis and the Amici Ensemble together - both by Orlando Gibbons (also with an anniversary year - Orlando Gibbons died in June 1625!).

Wonderful music and a much appreciated event. Thank you to the performers, Vox Lucis and the Amici Ensemble.
